"Underdog Movie Update"

“When criminals in this world appear and break the laws that they should fear…” they better be ready for Underdog.  The pop culture phenomenon that rhymed his way through the 60’s and 70’s is back and headed for the big screen.  Thus far news about the new live action Underdog movie has been limited.  Walt Disney and Spyglass Entertainment have kept the Providence, Rhode Island filming low profile.  This is the cast as we know it:

Jason Lee, the ever repentant star of “My name is Earl” will handle the voice work for Underdog.  So I guess he can cross that off his list.

Peter Dinklage will play the dastardly Simon Barsinister.  If you saw Dinklage in “Elf” as the small but explosive author, Miles Finch, you know that he will attack this role with passion.

Jim Belushi from a multitude of movies and TV’s “According to Jim” has also been cast.  While no official announcement has been made about his role, I've heard from a reliable source that he will play "Dan" the father of the boy who owns Underdog. 

Amy Adams’ role as Sweet Polly Purebred is a logical choice.  Ms. Adams’ recently played the soft spoken Susan in Talledega Nights and she fully understands when to blend into the scenery and when to explode off screen.

Overall the casting looks stellar, so we can only hope that Joe Piscatella and Craig A. Williams, the writers of this movie know how to update a classic show like Underdog.  There is a delicate balance that has to be achieved, keeping the fundamental feel of a loved character and revising the dated elements.  Keep your fingers crossed Underdog fans!
